Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Tourism Surges Past Annual Target as Over Two Million Foreign Visitors Fuel Record Growth
Vietnam’s Phu Quoc has exceeded its annual tourism goals after receiving over two million international tourists in the first ten months of this year.
Vietnam’s Phu Quoc has exceeded its annual tourism goals after receiving over two million international tourists in the first ten months of this year. With only two months of 2026 left to go, increased international flight connectivity has helped draw greater interest to the island, causing more than two million foreigners to visit between January and October. Increasing popularity for beach getaways, increased investment into tourist facilities and an increasing range of activities has made Vietnam’s largest island increasingly attractive to tourists.
Tourist Arrivals Exceed Full-Year Expectations
Phu Quoc received 2.14 million international tourists between January and October 2026, representing a 59 per cent increase compared with the same period last year. This surpassed the island’s annual target of two million foreign visitors ahead of schedule.
The wider tourism market delivered equally strong results. Total arrivals reached 9.2 million in the first ten months, rising 30 per cent year-on-year and exceeding the full-year goal of 8.5 million. Both targets were therefore achieved before November, reinforcing Phu Quoc’s position as an increasingly prominent destination within Vietnam’s tourism industry.
These figures underline the growing role of international travellers in Vietnam’s island tourism.
October Delivers Another Surge in Overseas Demand
The island’s growth continued into October, when 223,440 international tourists arrived, according to An Giang Province’s Department of Tourism. That represented a 53 per cent increase compared with October 2025, demonstrating continuing foreign interest.
These October arrivals are included in the ten-month total, rather than representing additional visitors. Nevertheless, the monthly figure illustrates the scale of demand as Phu Quoc approaches the end of 2026. With its annual goals surpassed, attention is turning towards the air connections and travel experiences supporting its expanding international profile.
Better Air Connectivity Broadens Phu Quoc’s Reach
Direct international flights have become an important driver of Phu Quoc’s tourism development. Air links connect the island with major visitor markets, including South Korea and Taiwan, alongside destinations in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. These services make island holidays more accessible to overseas travellers.
Improved connectivity also strengthens Phu Quoc’s ability to compete for international leisure demand. Visitors can consider the island for beach escapes and longer holidays without relying entirely on journeys through other Vietnamese cities. Its expanding flight network complements tourism infrastructure investment and a wider range of experiences available to visitors.
New Russian Service Supports Visitor Growth
On 27 September 2026, more than 370 tourists landed in Phu Quoc aboard its first direct flight from Russia. The service adds another international connection for visitors seeking holidays on the Vietnamese island.
Tour operator Anex Vietnam, which specialises in inbound tourism from Russia, expects to bring around 15,000 Russian visitors to Phu Quoc each month following the route’s launch. This is a forecast, not a confirmed monthly arrival figure. Nevertheless, the projection illustrates how direct international flights could contribute to future tourism growth by bringing more overseas holidaymakers to the island.
Ahmedabad Route Creates New Opportunities for Indian Travellers
India is another market gaining direct air connectivity with Phu Quoc. On 16 October 2026, Sun PhuQuoc Airways opened bookings for a service linking the island with Ahmedabad, the largest city in Gujarat and a major commercial centre in western India.
Flights are scheduled to start on December 3, 2026, operating five times weekly. The route is available for reservations but has not yet begun operating. If launched as planned, it will give travellers from Ahmedabad a direct option for visiting Phu Quoc, potentially encouraging leisure travel between India and Vietnam.
Beaches and Experiences Strengthen the Holiday Appeal
Phu Quoc’s tourism performance reflects more than additional flights. Investment in visitor infrastructure and an expanding selection of activities have strengthened the island’s holiday appeal. Its coastal setting provides opportunities for kayaking, relaxing beside the sea and watching sunsets, adding variety to traditional beach holidays.
International recognition has also increased its visibility. Phu Quoc Asia’s best island, drawing attention to its standing among regional leisure destinations. Together, easier access and varied holiday experiences help explain the island’s growing attraction for international visitors.
Culinary Heritage Offers Another Tourism Advantage
Beyond beaches, Phu Quoc has a distinctive culinary identity. The island is particularly associated with seafood and fish sauce, elements of its food heritage that could attract travellers interested in local culture.
Building culinary experiences around this identity could offer holidaymakers another reason to explore the destination. Such activities would complement the island’s established coastal attractions and potentially broaden its appeal beyond resort stays. Culinary tourism remains an opportunity rather than a measured contributor to the latest visitor figures, but it offers another avenue for destination development.
Strong Growth Positions the Island for Further Expansion
Phu Quoc enters the final months of 2026 having already exceeded its overall and international tourism targets. The arrival figures indicate substantial momentum, while recently launched and planned air routes show efforts to attract more overseas markets.
The southern island of Vietnam’s Phu Quoc has exceeded its annual visitor goal by receiving more than two million foreign tourists in the first 10 months of 2026 as increased international flights, better facilities and rising popularity among tourists have boosted the sector.
The Russian service, forthcoming Ahmedabad flights and established regional connections illustrate the importance of aviation to the island’s visitor economy. Continued investment in facilities and experiences could support future demand. For now, the strongest evidence of its success is clear: 9.2 million total arrivals, including 2.14 million international tourists, during the first ten months of 2026.
