A weekend washout is on the horizon for parts of the South and Gulf Coast states, prompting an increased flash flood risk through the weekend for Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.
A weekend washout is on the horizon for parts of the South and Gulf Coast states, prompting an increased flash flood risk through the weekend for Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.
Rain started on Friday in the South, but on Saturday moisture from the Gulf driven north by upper-level energy over the western Gulf will move into the region.

As the moisture surges north, it will run into a wall of high pressure, creating another dynamic rain event.
The highest rain totals through Monday will be across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and into the Carolinas, where a widespread 2 to 3 inches of rain is likely, according to the FOX Forecast Center.
The closer to the Gulf, the higher the rain totals get, with 3 to 5 inches or higher most likely along the southern Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi coasts extending into the Florida Panhandle, where a level 2 out of 4 flash flood threat is in effect on Saturday.
On Sunday, the flood threat shifts east and extends much further north into Georgia as well as the Carolinas. The entire state of Alabama and most of Mississippi are included in the level 2 out of 4 threat as well.
It's not all bad news with these high rain forecasts. Most of the region is experiencing some level of drought.
Louisiana has seen a 5% increase in drought conditions since this time last week, according to the FOX Forecast Center.
Cities like Shreveport are over 3 inches below their September average and are heading into October on the wrong side of the scale.
By Sunday, a weak area of low pressure will develop along the Mid-Atlantic and move up the East Coast. This disturbed weather will allow for a few rain showers to develop across the region, making for another gloomy Sunday for millions.
Rain totals will be very light in these areas.
After Sunday, temperatures will drop well below average, thus ending the taste of summer across the East coast.
