TAAG and SAA launch codeshare to strengthen African and long-haul links
TAAG Angola Airlines and South African Airways have launched a new codeshare agreement linking Luanda, Johannesburg and Cape Town with key African, European and South American cities, expanding itineraries and simplifying ticketing and connections for travellers.
LUANDA / JOHANNESBURG – TAAG Angola Airlines and South African Airways (SAA) have entered into a new codeshare agreement designed to strengthen regional and intercontinental connectivity, using Luanda, Johannesburg and Cape Town as key hubs.
Ticket sales are already open, and travel under the agreement commenced on 17 November 2025. Both carriers have completed the necessary system integration work to ensure smooth implementation for travel agents, corporates and individual passengers.
Under the arrangement, SAA will place its flight code on TAAG-operated services from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Luanda, with onward connections from the Angolan capital to Lisbon, Portugal, and São Paulo, Brazil. In return, TAAG will gain access to a number of key points in SAA’s regional network, including Durban, Gqeberha, Cape Town, Harare and Lusaka.
The codeshare allows both airlines to jointly market and sell tickets and to align their commercial efforts. Customers will be able to book a wider range of destinations on a single ticket in their local currency, with coordinated check-in and baggage handling across the combined network. For travel trade professionals, the agreement broadens itinerary options linking southern Africa, Angola, Europe and South America, while simplifying ticketing and through-journey arrangements.
Beyond the operational benefits, both airlines position the agreement as a contribution to wider intra-African connectivity, with implications for trade, tourism and the movement of people and goods.
