OMAHA, Neb. — A Nebraska driver's quick reaction saved him from a semitruck that jackknifed along Interstate 80 in Omaha amid the pouring rain Wednesday night. Thunderstorms enhanced by moisture from Hurricane Rachel and the remnants of Polo triggered widespread flooding across parts of Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas.

The truck was initially driving at least three lanes to the left of the driver's before the truck's cab suddenly began crossing the entire highway. Fortunately, the driver hit the brakes just in time to avoid being clipped by the cab and the passing trailer.

Omaha recorded 4.74 inches of rain yesterday, a new daily record. Lincoln, Nebraska, recorded 6.15 inches of rain, shattering a daily record that had stood since 1910.

Many state and local roads were closed due to flooding early Thursday, according to the state's department of transportation.

Flash Flood Warnings remained in effect across the eastern part of the state Thursday morning.
