Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast is preparing for a bright and colourful September weekend as the Fall Kite Festival returns from 25 to 27 September 2026. Giant kites, glowing night displays, family workshops and expert flying will turn the sky above the coast into a moving work of art. The event is a long-loved tradition for local families and visitors. This year, however, it has an important new setting.
The 2026 Fall Kite Festival will not take place at its usual D River Wayside location. It is moving temporarily to the beach beside Chinook Winds Casino Resort. The reason is the construction of the new Lincoln City Welcome Center at D River Wayside. The change shows how a major visitor event can continue while a key public tourism site is being upgraded.

A New Home for a Much-Loved Oregon Coast Festival

Lincoln City’s Fall Kite Festival has become one of the Oregon Coast’s most eye-catching family events. It brings together skilled kite flyers, large display kites and people who simply want to enjoy the fresh sea air. Visitors can see colourful shapes glide, dip and rise over the beach.
The 2026 venue move is temporary. Organisers are working with Chinook Winds Casino Resort to keep the festival running while work continues at the old D River Wayside site. This is important for Lincoln City because the festival supports the wider visitor economy. It brings people to the coast at the start of autumn, when summer crowds begin to slow.
The move will also change how visitors travel around the city. Rather than going to D River Wayside, festival-goers will head north to the Chinook Winds area. Parking will be available near the resort, First Choice Fresh Market and the Lincoln City Outlets parking structure. Free shuttle buses are also planned to help reduce traffic and make the event easier to reach.

A Dazzling Night Fly Starts the Weekend

The festival opens on Friday, 25 September, with its popular Night Fly. As daylight fades, specially lit kites will take to the sky. The glowing displays are expected to create one of the weekend’s most memorable scenes.
The Night Fly adds a different kind of experience to a beach festival. Daytime kite events are bright and open. A night display feels more dramatic. The lights move against the dark coastal sky and give visitors a reason to stay beyond the normal daytime schedule.
The Friday programme will also include Pixie Fest carnival games. Donations from the games will support the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln City. Free shuttle services are planned for the evening, helping visitors avoid the pressure of finding parking close to the beach.
