Rain chances increase across central US as storm system taps Gulf moisture

Moisture from Hurricane Simon will contribute to a multiday threat of rain, thunderstorms and flooding across the Plains as an upper-level disturbance moves out of the Rockies and interacts with a slow-moving frontal boundary.

A developing storm system will trigger showers and thunderstorms from the Rockies into the Plains and Midwest, possibly bring rain to major cities in the region.

Tropical moisture associated with Hurricane Simon is being drawn northward into the southern Plains, where it will interact with a slow-moving front and an upper-level storm system to fuel heavy rain and thunderstorms across parts of Texas and the central U.S.

Hurricane Simon will continue moving toward the coast of Mexico through the end of the week, and as the storm weakens, it will funnel tropical moisture into the Plains, fueling a multiday threat of severe storms and flooding.
