ITM Goa Seals New Landmark Tourism Contracts as Public Funds Finance Premium Rail Workspaces and Eighty-Two Per Cent of High-Yield Travellers Book Design Stays

ITM Goa locks in destination deals as Skyscanner tracks 82% of luxury travellers booking designer stays alongside funded rail workspaces.

India’s travel and hospitality industry was given another avenue for commercial dealings as India Travel Mart (ITM) Goa 2026 wrapped its three-day exhibition on 2 November. The exhibition, which took place at the Panjim Convention Centre in Panaji from 31 October, attracted tourism bodies, hotels and resorts, travel operators and industry professionals. The business-to-business and business-to-consumer tourism exhibition was organised by the ICM Group. Its programme was designed to assist exhibitors with destination promotion, the launch of new travel products and the creation of links with travel agents, tour operators and consumers. The event’s focus on business activities underpins the importance of direct industry links within India’s fast-growing tourism sector. Travel operators have relied on trade shows to make contacts with accommodation providers, DMCs and tourism boards, while seeking offers on new packages and partnerships. ITM’s broader business model also encompasses destination presentations, networking opportunities and meetings between travel companies. Data, however, that corroborates the number of corporate procurement executives, international buyers or final distribution deals at the Goa edition has not been independently verified. This is not to imply that the period following the show confirmed the volume of such deals.

Travel Trade Events Strengthen Destination Marketing

Travel exhibitions remain important channels for destination promotion in India. They allow state tourism organisations, hotels and tour operators to present their products directly to businesses responsible for selling holidays and managing travel arrangements.

For smaller destinations and independent hospitality brands, these platforms can provide access to travel agencies and corporate travel planners that may otherwise be difficult to reach. Direct conversations also help suppliers understand changing customer expectations, seasonal demand and the commercial requirements of travel distributors.

Goa’s position as an established leisure and hospitality destination gives the event an appropriate setting for discussions around accommodation, domestic holidays and international travel products.

The wider industry is also looking beyond traditional holiday packages. Wellness retreats, experiential accommodation, cultural itineraries and personalised journeys are increasingly important themes in destination marketing.

Skyscanner Identifies a Stronger Preference for Hotel-Led Travel

A significant finding in Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2026 report highlights how accommodation is influencing destination selection among Indian travellers.

According to the report, 82% of Indian travellers said they had chosen a destination purely because of their accommodation choice. The finding comes from Skyscanner’s research involving a consumer survey of 2,000 Indian travellers, supported by travel search data and industry insights.

The trend is described as Destination Check-in, where the hotel becomes a central part of the holiday rather than simply a place to sleep.

Design-led properties, distinctive architecture, boutique accommodation and immersive hospitality experiences are contributing to this shift. Travellers are increasingly considering the character of a property, its surroundings and the experiences it offers when deciding where to spend their holidays.

Importantly, the 82% figure applies to Indian travellers surveyed by Skyscanner. It does not specifically measure corporate and luxury travellers, nor does it establish that every respondent selected a destination exclusively because of boutique hotel design.

Nevertheless, the finding offers a clear signal for hospitality businesses. Accommodation providers may need to communicate their design, location, experiences and distinctive services more effectively to attract travellers who see the property as part of the destination itself.

Boutique Hospitality Gains Strategic Importance

The growing interest in accommodation-led travel creates opportunities for independent hotels, boutique resorts and premium hospitality brands.

Properties with distinctive architectural identities, locally inspired interiors, wellness facilities and personalised guest experiences can build stronger appeal among travellers seeking something beyond conventional accommodation.

This also changes how destinations market themselves. Rather than promoting only landmarks, beaches and sightseeing attractions, tourism businesses can build itineraries around distinctive places to stay.

For example, a mountain retreat can promote its architecture, views and wellness facilities alongside nearby outdoor activities. A heritage property can combine its historic character with local food, cultural experiences and guided exploration.

Such positioning can help accommodation providers compete through experience and identity rather than relying exclusively on room prices.

Indian Railways Investment Supports the Wider Connectivity Picture

India’s transport infrastructure is another important factor in the tourism industry’s long-term development. The Union Budget 2026–27 outlined substantial railway investment, including plans for seven high-speed rail corridors covering approximately 4,000 kilometres.

The proposed corridors are intended to improve passenger connectivity between major urban and economic centres. The government has also highlighted the role of railway infrastructure in supporting regional development and economic activity.

However, no verified government announcement was identified confirming fresh capital approvals on 2 November for premium quiet-carriage workspace variants connecting industrial corridors.

The distinction is important. High-speed rail investment, passenger-service improvements and dedicated business-workspace train designs are separate developments. They should not be presented as one confirmed programme without an official project announcement.

India’s Travel Market Moves Towards More Personalised Experiences

The holiday accommodation results suggest that India’s travel market is experiencing two parallel shifts. Trade shows are still being used to bring tourism suppliers together with travel product distributors, while consumers are beginning to be influenced by lodging when making holiday choices. For hoteliers and destination marketers, there is a sweet spot here. Good trade relationships are likely to lead to better market access, while authentic hospitality will give travellers greater incentive to visit a destination. Looking ahead to the rest of 2026, commercial connectivity, a robust travel network, and experience-oriented accommodation will continue to be vital to India’s growth.
