Nicolas Cage returns as arms dealer Yuri Orlov in 'Lords of War' sequel arriving in 2027
Nicolas Cage returns as arms dealer Yuri Orlov in "Lords of War," with Bill Skarsgård playing a ruthless mercenary bent on destroying his legacy.
The first preview for the sequel to "Lord of War" has arrived.
The film "Lord of War" premiered in September 2005, and starred Nicolas Cage as arms dealer Yuri Orlov and Jared Leto as Yuri's brother Vitaly.
Yuri is widely believed to be a composite character based on several real arms dealers, including infamous criminal Viktor Bout.

The 2005 original film shined dramatized and fictional light on the global arms trade, and is one of Cage's best films.
Now, more than 20 years later, a sequel — "Lords of War" — is on the way with Cage reprising his role and Bill Skarsgård, Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks and Greg Tarzan Davis rounding out the cast.
The plot is described as, "Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage returns as the notorious arms dealer Yuri Orlov, who discovers that a ruthless mercenary (Bill Skarsgård) is bent on destroying his legacy, thrusting them into a blood-soaked and bullet-riddled battle to the death."

As you'd expect, people had plenty to say after seeing the preview for a sequel that's dropping more than two decades later.
One person in the comments on YouTube wrote, "I'm calling it: There's gonna be a scene that involves Yuri being traded to some totalitarian nation in exchange for the release of some all-star athlete."
That comment is in response to Bout famously being traded from U.S. custody back to Russia in exchange for WNBA player Brittney Griner.

Another person added, "Just seeing Nic Cage back as Yuri brings a smile to my face. I’m definitely going to see this."
A third commented, "Yuri is the role Cage was born for."
There's no question he excelled as Yuri in the first film, and expectations will be very high for the second.
