Lightning strike kills mother and 2-year-old daughter in Broward County, Florida

A mother and her 2-year-old daughter were killed during a lighting strike in Margate, Florida, Sunday afternoon, officials said.

MARGATE, Fla. — A mother and her 2-year-old daughter were killed during a lighting strike in Margate, Florida, Sunday afternoon, officials said. 

Police said officers and the fire department responded to a 911 call of a lighting strike around 2:30 p.m.

31-year-old Kenya Glasgow and her daughter were taken to different hospitals where they were both pronounced dead shortly after arrival. 

Police said they are still investigating the incident.

The FOX Forecast Center said Sunday's thunderstorms were part of Florida's typical summer storm pattern.

According to the National Lightning Safety Council, 12 people have been killed by lightning in 2026 and lightning can strike the ground as much as 10 miles away from the thunderstorm from which it originates.
