FORT WORTH, Texas – A Fort Worth Independent School District (ISD) middle school has been deemed ‘unsafe for occupancy’ due to damage from recent storms.
The Superintendent of Fort Worth ISD, Dr. Peter Kicata, announced that the building for Meacham Middle School will be shut down for several weeks.
"As a result of significant heavy rainfall, portions of the recently built Meacham Middle School building are currently unsafe for occupancy," Fort Worth ISD said on their website.
The closure comes after relentless rain from Thursday's storms battered the area. According to the FOX Forecast Center, 3.40 inches of rain fell on the Fort Worth area on Thursday alone.
Staff and students at Meacham Middle School will temporarily relocate to the Briscoe Elementary School's building, which is unoccupied.
"Most importantly, although students will report to a different building, they will remain Meacham Middle School students," says Dr. Licata in a statement to the middle school parents. "Our goal is to preserve continuity and stability throughout this temporary transition."
The school's building was closed on Thursday and Friday due to the flooding from the week's storms. Classes have been canceled at the middle school for Monday, October 5, while staff moves to the new building. Classes will resume on Tuesday, October 6 at Briscoe Elementary Schoo
FOX 4 KDFW reports that Meacham Middle School is undergoing renovations, with construction expected to finish mid-2027.
