Severe storms produced strong winds across the Dakotas Thursday, including an 86 mph gust in Hand County, South Dakota, according to NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC).
A powerful supercell just north of Mayetta, Kansas produced numerous cloud-to-ground lightning strikes in front of FOX Weather Exclusive Storm Tracker Brandon Copic on Thursday.
The SPC issued a Level 2 out of 5 severe thunderstorm risk on Friday covering parts of Iowa, Illinois, northern Missouri, southeastern Nebraska and northern Kansas.
Storms could pack hail larger than 2 inches in diameter and damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph.
A few tornadoes are also possible, mainly across Nebraska and Iowa, the FOX Forecast Center said.

A broad Level 1 threat covers much of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, including Chicago and northwestern Indiana.
Much of the Plains has seen repeated rounds of rain from severe storms this week, increasing the potential for flash flooding Friday.

NOAA's Weather Prediction Center issued a Level 2 out of 4 flash flood risk across central and southern Iowa, southeastern Nebraska, northeastern Kansas, northern Missouri and northwestern Illinois.
A widespread 1 to 2 inches of rain is likely across Iowa, and localized amounts over 2 inches are possible.
