Far From Ordinary: Marianas Debuts New Tourism Brand

The Marianas has launched a new Far from Ordinary tourism campaign to attract global travellers and revitalise the local economy, with a focus on immersive experiences.

As part of a new strategy to Reimage and Reignite the Appeal of the Tourism Industry, the Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA) has launched a global brand campaign aimed to enhance the Marianas image beyond the Pacific as a Far from Ordinary destination. This new strategy promises to unlock new avenues to the Marianas, a status they have long desired, and places the MVA firmly at the vanguard of archipelago brand development and promotion leadership.

The new campaign promises to adjustments to the Marianas image, distancing the destination from the overexploited and over marketed tropical islands. It’s unique cultural diversity, stunning natural landscapes and rich heritage will have to be combined in a new approach to the tourism markets of the US, Asia, and beyond as developed with Sydney based Circul8 creative agency.

A Strategic Approach to Tourism Revitalisation
The Marianas campaign is a direct response to the growing global demand for more authentic, immersive travel experiences. With the tourism industry facing various challenges, the MVA has prioritised initiatives that will make the islands a compelling choice for those looking to connect deeply with their destinations.

Extensive market research played a critical role in shaping the campaign. More than 9,000 participants from markets including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and the US were surveyed to understand traveller preferences. The findings highlighted a strong interest in cultural authenticity and adventure, aligning perfectly with the Marianas’ offerings.

Highlighting Unique Local Experiences
The core message of the Far from Ordinary campaign is that the Marianas offers more than just picturesque beaches. It is a destination steeped in history, vibrant cultural traditions, and unspoiled natural landscapes, making it a prime location for travellers seeking deeper, more meaningful experiences.

The campaign imagery and content spotlight a range of immersive activities such as exploring WWII wrecks, stargazing over the Mariana Trench, and visiting Chamorro and Carolinian cultural sites. The focus is on the islands’ unique blend of indigenous cultures, celestial navigation traditions, and rich local heritage, which provide travellers with a chance to connect with both the land and its people.

Reaching New Audiences and Strengthening Tourism Growth
The launch of this new brand identity is a critical component of the MVA’s broader strategy to attract more visitors and diversify the local tourism economy. The Marianas aims to not only attract adventure-seeking travellers but also those prioritising sustainability and interactive travel experiences.

Research indicates that nearly 58% of global travellers are drawn to destinations that offer immersive or interactive experiences. In markets such as South Korea and Taiwan, more than 60 percent of prospective visitors expressed interest in destinations with strong cultural authenticity and adventure, presenting the Marianas with an ideal opportunity to cater to these travellers.

As part of the campaign’s global outreach, the MVA plans to roll out multi-language marketing campaigns in English, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese, aiming to connect with a broad audience base. The marketing efforts will also feature a new mascot, a revamped global website, and a series of videos that showcase the personal stories and experiences of local people.

Supporting Sustainable Growth Through Tourism
A key component of the Marianas’ tourism strategy is to ensure that the destination’s growth is sustainable and beneficial to the local community. The new brand messaging emphasises a strong commitment to responsible tourism and the preservation of the islands’ natural and cultural assets. This aligns with the growing demand for destinations that offer travellers an authentic, sustainable travel experience, while also supporting the well-being of local communities.

Jamika Taijeron, Managing Director of the MVA, stated that the new campaign and branding approach would unite the islands’ community and partners, serving as a powerful invitation for travellers to experience a place that is both unique and unforgettable.

The Road Ahead for the Marianas’ Tourism Industry
As part of the ongoing strategy to diversify the islands’ tourism industry, the Marianas Visitors Authority has strategically integrated destination marketing along with brand marketing. The planned campaign will leverage associated digital assets, social media, and trade promotions targeted at generating interest and awareness of the islands as a premier tourist destination.

Aside from appealing to overseas travelers, the MVA also intends to motivate the residents to embrace the brand, making sure that the growth of the tourism industry is inclusive for everyone on the islands.

The Marianas with its new brand Far from Ordinary is strategically positioned to enhance its tourism products making it a core destination for those travelers in search of an extraordinary travel experience.
