Captain Liska’s Background: A Life at Sea
Captain Liska’s interest in the maritime world began early in life. Growing up in Düsseldorf, Germany, he was inspired by a ferry trip from Norway to Germany, which sparked his fascination with the sea. He began corresponding with numerous cruise ship companies to learn more about their operations, and many of their responses remain treasured mementos to this day.
Liska graduated from Maritime College Ålesund, now known as the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, in Ålesund, Norway. He holds Norwegian and Bahamian Master Mariner Certifications and has received extensive training in various areas, including vessel sanitation management, crisis management, and environmental protection. His career has seen him traverse vast oceans, accumulating an impressive skill set that now places him at the helm of The World’s operations.
A Smooth Transition: Captain Liska’s Partnership with Captain Dag Sævik
Captain Liska will share the captaincy of The World with Captain Dag Sævik, who has served the Ship for many years. Together, they will oversee the vessel’s daily maritime operations and the safety and well-being of everyone on board. The shared leadership approach ensures that The World’s operations continue smoothly and seamlessly, even as it travels to some of the world’s most extraordinary destinations.
Captain Liska’s appointment also signals a generational transition in leadership, following the retirement of Captain Mark Dexter. “We are profoundly grateful for the wisdom, integrity, and heart that Captain Mark has brought to the Ship each and every day,” said Jessica Hoppe. “Captain Mark’s legacy will continue to inspire our team as we look to the future, and we wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”
