A larger-than-life Puto Biñan took center stage at Southwoods Mall, commanding attention with its impressive size and vibrant appearance as the Puto Latik Festival officially commenced. The lively event welcomed guests into a colorful celebration of Biñan’s rich culture, diverse flavors, and cherished traditions. At the heart of the launch festivities was a ceremonial cutting of a colossal Puto Biñan, a spectacle that drew large crowds and ignited awe and excitement among attendees, while also paying homage to one of the city’s most iconic delicacies and culinary symbols, renowned for its soft, fluffy texture and sweet, coconut-infused topping.

Taking place from May 16 to 23, the Puto Latik Festival offers a vibrant mix of experiences blending food, creativity, and community—encouraging visitors to rediscover traditional customs through lively and innovative events.
During the festivities, students, families, food lovers, and festivalgoers are invited to experience Biñan’s celebrations, which highlight not only its traditions but also the people who keep them alive and evolving. A celebration of movement and heritage unfolds as the colorful Maglalatik dance brings Binan’s festive spirit to life.
The festivities included the Interschool Flair Bartending Competition and Biñan’s Singing Idol, providing platforms for local talents to demonstrate their creativity and skills. The celebration continues with Biñan’s Finest: Family Soiree on May 23, which showcases local crafts and community services, emphasizing entrepreneurship and local pride, while honoring the people and communities that define Biñan.

One of the celebration’s most anticipated events was the Puto Latik Cook-Off, which turned tradition into a springboard for creativity. More than just a culinary contest, it served as a demonstration of how familiar flavors can evolve with innovative ideas and fresh takes.
Puto Fiesta Royal elevated the iconic Puto Biñan through creativity and flavor, earning the Grand Champion title.
Participants reimagined Puto Biñan as innovative creations that showcased originality in flavor and presentation, illustrating the dish’s adaptability beyond its traditional form. The competition showcased not only the versatility of the dish but also the creativity and skill of the communities behind each entry—demonstrating that heritage can inspire innovation while still being firmly rooted in identity.

Barangay Canlalay’s Tres Crema Chicken Potato Pie placed 2nd runner-up, Barangay Langkiwa’s Biñan Chewy Puto secured 1st runner-up, while Barangay Biñan’s Puto Fiesta Royal took home the top prize.
This year’s winning dishes showcased creativity in both their execution and flavor. Ranging from sweet reinterpretations to savory creations, they served as a reminder that traditions often evolve through those who reinvent them.
Preserving Biñan’s Story
The Puto Latik Festival has become a significant annual event in Biñan, celebrating two cultural icons central to the city’s identity: Puto Biñan and the Maglalatik. Initially held in February, the festival was rescheduled to May to align with the feast day of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers—highlighting the city’s agricultural heritage and enduring customs.
At the heart of the celebration is Puto Biñan, the city’s iconic steamed rice cake traditionally topped with cheese or salted egg. It has long been viewed as a symbol of craftsmanship passed down through generations. The festival also honors the Maglalatik, a traditional folk dance performed with coconut shells that showcases movement, artistry, and Biñan’s rich cultural heritage, which still influences the city today.
