The 6 best new movies and TV shows streaming this weekend

The summer is almost over, and the new films and TV series are just heating up. We've rounded up the six best new movies and TV shows streaming the weekend of August 28, 2026.

This week's new releases include the latest seasons of the thrillers "The Undeclared War" and "Dark Matter." If you're seeking out something a bit more lighthearted, "Jeopardy! Masters" and "Adults" have also returned with new episodes. There are also a couple of new, albeit tonally different, can't-miss movies, including "The Whisper Man" and "The Last Sunrise."

6: The Undeclared War

Peacock's British spy import returns for another season, four years after its first. In "The Undeclared War" Season 2, the GCHQ malware department deals with the fallout of a Russian cyber-attack, only to discover that there's a mole. Simon Pegg, Siân Brooke, and Hannah Khalique-Brown star. All six episodes are now streaming on Peacock.

5: Jeopardy! Masters

The new season of "Jeopardy!" might not start back up until later next month, but there's an all-star showdown to keep you busy in the meantime. In "Jeopardy! Masters," six "Jeopardy!" pros duke it out for a shot at $500,00 in the two-week event, which is hosted by Ken Jennings. New episodes air on ABC and are available the next day on Hulu and the Disney Plus and Hulu bundle.

4: The Last Sunrise

Based on the Anna Todd novel of the same name, "The Last Sunrise" follows a chronically ill young woman (Maia Reficco) on vacation with her mother (Eva Longoria) in Mallorca. She falls in love with a local guy (Fernando Lindez), but their complicated family ties and her worsening illness raise the stakes beyond a typical summer fling. The movie is now streaming on Prime Video.

3: Dark Matter

Based on the Blake Crouch novel of the same name, "Dark Matter" follows physics professor Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) as he's abducted into an alternate universe and version of his life, leaving him desperate to get back ot his wife (Jennifer Connelly) and son. The latest outing follows Jason and his family as they try to move forward, but find themselves once again at the whims of the multiverse and the many Jasons. The season premiere is now streaming on Apple TV.

2: The Whisper Man

When a crime writer's (Adam Scott) young son is abducted, he seeks out his estranged retired detective father (Robert DeNiro) for help. "The Whisper Man," based on the Alex North novel of the same name, finds the pair deep into the mystery of a serial killer and a potential copycat. Michelle Monaghan and Hamish Linklater round out the all-star cast. The film is now streaming on Netflix.

1: Adults

One of Hulu's two Gen Z hangout sitcoms (RIP to the recently canceled "Not Suitable for Work") returns for a sophomore season. "Adults" follows a group of twenty-something friends who live together in one of their childhood homes in Queens. Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Amita Rao, and Owen Thiele star in the FX/Hulu series. The full season is now streaming on Hulu and the Disney Plus and Hulu bundle.
