The 5 best air fryer toaster ovens of 2026

I tested nearly a dozen air fryer toaster ovens to find the best models for quick meals, air frying, baking, and more.

Even though I test kitchen products for a living, I can be lazy in my kitchen, especially if things are stored away or out of reach. Instead, I lean hard on my air fryer toaster oven. I love the versatility, even though I've found that traditional basket air fryers tend to perform better at air-frying. The best air fryer toaster ovens simply give you a little bit of everything and replace daily reliance on my oven for quick meals.

My current air fryer toaster oven in residence is our overall winner, the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro. It is a big air fryer toaster oven, but I also view it as a mini oven. The machine is handy when I am heating a quick frozen pizza in the afternoon for my kids or making a side dish when there's no room left in my traditional oven when I'm entertaining.

If the Breville's footprint is too big or you just don't need that much cooking space, I also found other options that may appeal to you. My love affair with Cosori air fryers continued into this test. I awarded the brand the best overall air fryer in my traditional air fryer test, and the Cosori 13-Quart Air Fryer Oven was my next favorite. It cooks food quickly and well, and costs under $150. After testing nearly a dozen air fryer toaster ovens, I have opinions and recommendations for any kitchen.

Best overall

The Breville is the best all-around countertop oven I tested, and it's the one I continue to use in my kitchen. It isn't the crispiest air fryer here, but it's the most capable oven by a wide margin. In my testing, it toasted bread evenly, baked a frozen pizza evenly in 10 minutes, and quickly turned out gooey cookies. I used its convection fan constantly for quick batches of baked goods. But it's also big enough to roast a chicken or bake 12 muffins.

It's also the easiest oven to live with. I set it up without opening the manual, and it earned top marks for ease of use, build quality, and features. The crumb tray and most accessories are dishwasher-safe, so the only real cleaning chore is wiping fingerprints off the glass and stainless steel.

cake baking in a breville toaster oven

The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is the one that stays in my kitchen long-term.

Air-frying fries took longer than expected and needed to be shaken again because one side was soggier than the other. However, shaking them and cooking longer led to optimal results. Brussels sprouts dried out instead of roasting, and fatty foods tend to splatter, but that was the case with most air fryer toaster ovens. It also took the longest to preheat (sometimes around 5 minutes), but it had some of the most even heating. It's best for cooks who want a second oven that bakes, roasts, and toasts well, plus the convenience of air frying. At $399, it's one of the most expensive of my picks, but built to last. This oven is also large. Another editor found that Breville's size overwhelmed her small kitchen, so if you need a smaller footprint, the Smart Oven Air Fryer Compact offers similar capabilities.

Best value

The Cosori 13-quart air fryer oven cooked better than ovens that cost twice as much. It turned in perfect scores on fries, broccoli, toast, and chicken thighs. No other oven I tested did that well on so many foods; it heats up very quickly and cooks just as fast. It finished broccoli faster than any other machine I tested, including the basket air fryers. The results were tender on the inside but still had those delicious papery edges you get when green vegetables are cooked quickly.

Toast in an air fryer toaster oven

The compact Cosori only fits about three pieces of toast at a time, but evenly toasted to a beautiful golden brown.

Its compact footprint makes it an ideal pick for smaller kitchens without sacrificing cooking capacity. While the dual-rack design gives the body a slightly taller profile so you can cook two trays at once, it still fits comfortably under standard upper cabinets. The extras are very helpful too. It comes with a rotating fry basket that tumbles your french fries so they crisp evenly without shaking, plus a rotisserie attachment. Every component cleaned up very easily, earning top marks for both ease of use and cleaning.

Pizza was its only real weakness because the interior is too small for a standard frozen pizza. The compact cavity is better suited to very small single-serve pizzas. If frozen pizza is on your weekly menu, you might want to consider the Ninja instead because it is space-saving. Still, this is a fantastic air fryer toaster oven for anyone looking for a budget or compact option, since it also has one of the smallest footprints in this test. It takes up far less counter space than the Breville, and at $159, it's the best-performing oven for the money in my testing.

Best space-saving

The Ninja Flip was the fastest oven I tested, and I love that it gets out of the way when you're done, reclaiming precious counter space. It flips up to stand on its back edge, which Ninja says uses 50% less counter space. I tested several ovens side by side, and the Flip always beeped first during preheating, indicating it was ready.

Fries came out crispy and evenly golden every time. The Flip also scored well on broccoli and was really easy to use. The wide, shallow chamber fits a 12-in pizza, even though the oven itself has a shallower clearance, making bulkier foods like a rotisserie chicken a tighter squeeze. Pizzas fit well, but they did get more well-done due to the low ceiling, which might not be an issue for some.

Seasoned chicken pieces cook on a foil-lined tray inside a Ninja countertop oven.

The space-saving Ninja Flip can fit four chicken thighs, but its wide cooking cavity is too shallow for bulkier foods like a whole chicken.

Still, I found the low ceiling to be its main drawback. There isn't much clearance above the food, so fat from protein can spatter onto the heating elements, making cleaning more involved. It's scored in the middle on toast, pizza, and chicken. It was good at everything but the best at nothing, except speed and storage. It's best for small kitchens and for people who cook quick, flat foods such as fries, nuggets, and sheet-pan dinners. It lists for $250 but regularly goes on sale, making it a good deal.

Best air fryer toaster oven for families

The Cuisinart 10-in-1 is the oven I'd hand to a busy family of four. It cooks almost everything well and holds enough for dinner. It earned perfect scores on chicken thighs and never scored below 4 out of 5 on any food. Its fries, broccoli, and pizza were all excellent, and its toast was good, although it could benefit from being flipped during cooking. It also heats up quickly, and you don't need a manual to use it because it has a cooking guide printed directly inside the interior door.

It's big enough for family dinners. It fits a 4-pound chicken, 3 pounds of wings, 6 slices of toast, or a 9x13-inch pan. It has air fryer presets for fries, wings, vegetables, and nuggets to take the guesswork out of cooking temperatures and timings – and it skips the need for preheating entirely. I found they also worked very well.

chicken cooking on a air fryer

An integrated cooking guide is helpful for knowing how long to cook and at what temperature.

The Cuisinart has no major weaknesses, only minor ones. Fries didn’t crisp as well as the Cosori, and it's not as strong a baker as the Breville, and it scored a notch below them in features. It's also one of the tallest ovens I tested, at 16 inches, so you may need to measure the space under your cabinet. It's best for families who want one reliable oven that does a bit of everything. At $250, it costs less than the Breville and cooks very consistently. If you need more room, there is an extra-large model that can toast up to 9 slices of bread.

Best design air fryer toaster oven

The Wonder Oven Pro is the prettiest oven I've tested, and it's also one of the best at cooking. It earned perfect scores on fries, chicken thighs, and broccoli, and it made an excellent pizza. I like that it preheats quickly and is one of the quietest machines that I tested. It also has easy, straightforward controls, though accessories require hand-washing.

Its design is more than looks. The steam inlet adds moisture while you cook: Our Place says 1 to 2 teaspoons of water is enough for a crisp outside and juicy insides. It also takes up far less space than the Breville and looks more attractive on the counter than the Ninja. The Pro comes in classic stainless steel and four matte, powder-coated color options. Our Place says that all of the ovens' interiors and cooking surfaces are made without PFAS, citing Light Lab's verification that it screened 690 substances. That matters if you're avoiding non-stick coatings. It doesn't mean that other ovens are unsafe, but it is a consideration if this is a category of appliance that you seek out.

our place fries

Toast was its weak spot: one side browned while the other remained pale, a real drawback for an appliance with "toaster" in its name. Still, I was able to mitigate its performance by flipping the toast mid-cook, which led to a more even color. The pizza came out evenly cooked, with good cheese melt and a browned underside. It's best for design-minded cooks who care about materials and primarily air-fry, roast, and reheat.

What else we tested

burned toast in an toaster oven

We tested dozens of air fryers over the years for this guide. Here are some that didn't make the cut, but may work for your needs.

Hamilton Beach Air Fryer Toaster Oven ($89): The Hamilton Beach really is not a classic air fryer toaster oven, at least by my standards and how I think of the appliance. Not only was this loud, but the air-frying function was really just running it on high heat. It's also incredibly difficult to clean because the lid hugs the top of the machine when raised.

Ninja Foodi XL Pro Air Fry Oven ($380 $219): This was one of our previous top picks because we loved how quickly it preheats and how well it toasts. However, I found that it struggled everywhere else. Frozen fries took much longer than the bag's directions, and the broccoli dried out. It's also very tall and bulky, even on a large countertop. If you find it on sale, it could be worth it, but otherwise, we preferred the Breville. Read our full Ninja XL Pro Air Fry Oven review.

Ninja Smart Double Oven ($429 $299): This air fryer is like combining the footprint of the Foodi XL Pro with stacking two Ninja Flips on top of each other, too cook two dishes simultaneously. The food cooked quickly and evenly, though the oven took a while to preheat.

Tovala Smart Oven Pro ($349 but $50 with meals): This did a great job with our chicken thighs and fries, cooking them evenly and crisping both. But I didn't like that the model I tested didn't have a dedicated air-frying button; instead, it had to be activated in the app. This machine is better suited for individuals planning to use the company's meal service. Tovala frequently offers promotions that drop the price of its ovens to nearly nothing if you commit to ordering meals six times.

Gourmia French Door ($100): This worked fine as a small oven and toaster, but I found that the French-door style didn’t seal tightly. Air frying took almost 10 minutes longer than in the basket fryers we tested at the same time, and the wings smoked so badly that I stopped the test.

Cafe Couture Oven ($449): The Café Couture Oven is user-friendly, offering intuitive on-unit and in-app controls, fast preheating, and delightfully crisp, golden results. Its signature rose-gold accents give it an elevated look on the counter, though rival models match its performance for a lower price. Additionally, while the companion app allows you to adjust settings remotely, safety features still require you to start cooking directly on the unit.

What to look for in an air fryer toaster oven

a large and small air fryer right next to each other

Size matters: Consider if you're cooking for a couple or a family, and how much space you have to devote to a countertop oven.

Countertop footprint

Air fryer toaster ovens stay on your counter permanently, so physical dimensions are critical. Be sure to measure depth and overhead clearance, and check the distance between your countertop and upper cabinets. Standard clearance is 18 inches, but taller models (15 to 16 inches high) leave little room for heat to dissipate. You'll need at least 2—4 inches of breathing room around the top and back vents.

Usable interior capacity

Interior capacity (measured in cubic feet or quarts) determines what cookware and meal sizes fit inside:

  • For 1- 2 people: A compact 0.4 to 0.6 cubic feet unit fits 4 slices of toast or a small 9-inch pizza.
  • For families: Look for 0.8-1.0+ cu. ft. models that accommodate a 12-inch frozen pizza, a 4-pound roast chicken, a 9x13-inch baking dish, or 6+ slices of bread.
  • Multiple rack positions: Dual or multi-rack positions let you cook a main dish and a side simultaneously or adjust rack height closer to the top broiler elements for intense searing.

Controls and interface

Choose control systems based on your comfort level with digital displays versus simple manual dials. Some displays look cluttered with multiple presets to toggle through, while others keep it simpler.

  • Digital touchpads & displays: Offer precise temperature settings (in 5° increments), countdown timers, and reliable preheating indicators. Best for consistent baking and precise roasting.
  • Analog dials: Simple to operate without reading a manual, but less precise for temperature accuracy and baking times.
  • Presets vs. manual control: Built-in presets (Air Fry, Toast, Pizza, Dehydrate, Reheat) provide quick one-touch starts, but manual temperature and timer control remain essential for custom recipes.

Ease of cleaning

Because high-speed fans circulate grease splatter, maintenance is a daily consideration:

  • Removable crumb tray: Always select a model with an exterior slide-out crumb tray for quick cleanup of crumbs and drips.
  • Interior coating: Nonstick or ceramic interior walls wipe down easily. If avoiding nonstick coatings, look for stainless-steel interiors verified to be free of PFAS/PTFE.
  • Dishwasher-safe accessories: Ensure the air fryer basket and wire racks are dishwasher-safe, as the mesh basket wire is difficult to scrub by hand.

Included accessories

The right accessories save you from purchasing aftermarket pans that might not fit. Many brands will also offer recipes and guides to help you get the timing just right for air frying food.

  • Mesh air fry basket: Essential for 360-degree airflow around fries, wings, and vegetables.
  • Baking pan and broil rack: Essential for catching drips during air frying or baking sheet-pan meals.
  • Specialized extras: Look for models including rotisserie spit attachments or tumbling fry baskets if you regularly roast whole poultry or large batches of fries. Some will even include a pizza pan, like the Cafe.

How we test air fryer toaster ovens

three pizzas sitting on the counter

Pizza is a helpful indicator of how evenly an air fryer toaster oven heats. From left to right: The Cuisinart, Our Place, and Ninja, with the Cuisinart giving crispy edges, the Our Place seemed to concentrate the melt in the center, and the Ninja didn't get as crisp, but heated evenly.

I tested nine air fryer toaster ovens in two rounds over the past year and drew on a previous author's testing. Each oven was scored on a 100-point rubric that assessed cooking performance, ease of use, cleaning, noise, preheat speed, heating consistency, build quality, and features.

Before I did any cooking, I timed how long it took to set up each oven without instructions, then washed every part by hand or in the dishwasher, according to the manufacturer's specifications. Some pieces were more involved than others, which I factored into the final score.

Cooking, however, was the most important thing to test. During the tests, I tried to use all of the features each air fryer toaster oven provided within reason. I made fries, cookies, pizza, toast, chicken wings, chicken thighs, mini pizzas, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli.

During the food tests, I was looking for consistency from cook to cook and in the results. The results needed to be even in doneness and color. And then I also took notes on how easy they were to use and clean. Air fryer noise was also a consideration, so anything excessively loud lost points.

Air fryer toaster oven FAQs

Are air fryer toaster oven combos worth it?

Yes, we think so. An air fryer combined with a toaster oven is flexible and cooks quickly. While baking frozen fries would take longer and wouldn't produce crispy results, the same fries cook quickly and be extra tasty after being cooked in the air fryer. Air fryer toaster ovens are similarly priced to air fryers and toaster ovens sold separately.

What's the difference between a traditional air fryer and an air fryer toaster oven?

Air fryer toaster ovens are generally more versatile than a traditional air fryer. If you're deciding between an air fryer toaster oven and a standard air fryer, check out the table below:

Air fryer toaster ovenTraditional basket air fryer
Best forVersatile functions and larger quantitiesCooking fast and crisping foods with less oil
DesignFront door to insert trays and dishes, plus a window to monitor cooking progressControls, presets, and timers on top, a removable basket to hold food with a handle
Price$100to $400$50 to $250

How do air fryer toaster ovens work?

Air fryer toaster ovens function as compact, high-powered convection ovens. Built-in heating elements generate thermal energy while a high-velocity fan rapidly circulates hot air throughout the cooking chamber. This intense airflow strips away surface moisture and cooks food quickly and evenly, creating a crisp, golden exterior with little to no oil.

Are air fryer toaster ovens healthier than regular frying?

Air fryers are generally healthier than a deep fryer, since they require much less oil. That said, it depends on your definition of the word "healthy" and how you fry.

Can an air fryer toaster oven replace a full-size oven?

For everyday cooking for 1-2 people, it could definitely reduce your reliance on a full-size oven. An air fryer toaster oven preheats faster, uses less energy, and cooks small- to medium-sized meals efficiently without heating up the entire kitchen. However, unlike an oven, it can't fit multiple trays of food at once if you're trying to cook a main and a side simultaneously, and could struggle to fit large casserole dishes or holiday roasts.
