Alstom, the world leader in the field of smart and sustainable mobility, is having a stunning presence at the 2025 China International Metro Transit Exhibition & CAMET Forum (MetroTrans 2025), taking place from September 18-20 at Qingdao Cosmopolitan Exposition. The group is launching its new products, including the Adessia Stream commuter train, as well as scale models of the Innovia APM, monorail systems, and the Movia metro. Also on display is a broad range of essential elements such as traction systems, motors, Flexx bogies, and Dispen dampers, all of which are aimed at transforming urban rail transport.
With a focus on innovation and high-quality development, Alstom is making urban rail networks capable of addressing expanding demand for capacity, efficiency, and enhanced passenger comfort. By further equipping the rail sector with cutting-edge solutions, Alstom is contributing to creating the future of clean and efficient urban mobility globally.
The Adessia Stream Commuter Train: A New Era in Regional Transit
One of the key highlights of the exhibition is the debut of the Adessia Stream single-deck commuter train. Alstom boasts over 60 years of experience in the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of regional commuter trains, and the Adessia family has been an essential part of over 60 commuter networks in 15 countries. Today, more than 19,000 Adessia Stream trains operate across more than 30 cities, serving approximately 20 million passengers daily.
The Adessia Stream train is a testament to Alstom’s expertise and innovation in rail mobility. With over 20 years of product evolution, it offers a flexible, reliable, and cost-effective solution for regional rail systems. The train is designed with sustainability in mind, featuring low energy consumption, a 95% material recyclability rate, high capacity, and an optimized lifecycle cost. These trains have become a staple in the global transportation landscape, providing both operational efficiency and long-term reliability. Recently, Alstom secured two major global contracts for the Adessia Stream, including a €538 million order from Greater Wellington for 18 battery-powered trains and a €1.0 billion contract with NJ TRANSIT in the United States for 200 Multilevel III commuter rail cars and 12 Alp 45 dual-powered locomotives.
Innovia APM & Monorail Systems: Smart, Efficient, and Adaptable Urban Solutions
Also on display at the exhibition is the Innovia automated people mover (APM) system, a high-efficiency, short-haul mobility solution designed for urban transport hubs. The Innovia APM combines advanced automation with rail technology to deliver a driverless, highly adaptable, and energy-efficient system. Its ability to seamlessly integrate with airports, transport hubs, and commercial districts addresses the ever-present “last-mile” challenge, offering passengers a convenient and comfortable travel experience.
Additionally, the Innovia monorail system offers a medium- to low-capacity solution, designed for multi-level urban transport networks. The monorail features an elevated guideway and a straddle operation configuration, allowing it to avoid surface congestion and the complexities of underground construction. The system is also eco-friendly, with low noise emissions and a rubber-tyred mechanism that enhances climbing capabilities and turning flexibility. The Innovia monorail is a perfect example of Alstom’s commitment to green, smart, and efficient urban mobility.
Movia Metro: Efficient Solutions for High-Capacity Urban Transit
For high-capacity urban trunk lines, the Movia metro system offers an advanced solution focused on energy savings, low carbon emissions, and environmentally friendly operation. Its lightweight and modular design reduce energy consumption while enhancing operational performance. The system ensures superior comfort, safety, and reliability, making it an excellent choice for busy metropolitan areas looking for efficient and sustainable transit options.
Alstom’s Comprehensive Portfolio of Rail Components
Alstom is also showcasing its extensive range of rail components at the exhibition. The company’s portfolio includes cutting-edge traction systems, motors, bogies, and dampers, each of which benefits from over 50 years of design and manufacturing expertise. These components are engineered to perform optimally in diverse climates and adhere to eco-design principles, ensuring low noise, high efficiency, recyclability, and reduced lifecycle costs.
The traction systems, in particular, are designed to meet the demands of the most challenging operating conditions. They are built for maximum reliability and efficiency, offering flexible control solutions, including car, bogie, and axle control, which ensure continuous green traction power. The motor portfolio includes a wide range of options, from 50 kW to 1,600 kW, and over 200,000 Alstom motors are in service globally. These motors, including permanent magnet variants, are integral to the performance of rail vehicles worldwide.
Alstom’s Flexx bogies, known for their high safety and cost-efficiency, are also part of the company’s display. Proven through years of operation, these bogies ensure a smooth and comfortable ride for passengers, combining operational efficiency with passenger comfort. With more than 250,000 bogies in service globally, Alstom continues to lead the way in rail innovation.
The company is also showcasing its Dispen dampers, renowned for their hydraulic damping technology. Developed over four decades, these dampers are essential for ensuring smooth and safe operations of rolling stock across various rail applications. Alstom’s joint venture with Qingdao Alstom Railway Equipment Co., Ltd. (DISPEN) ensures that these products continue to evolve and maintain their reputation as one of the industry’s best damping solutions.
