AirAsia Philippines Updates Guidelines on Portable Electronic Devices and Power Banks
Manila, Philippines — AirAsia has reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to ensuring passenger safety by issuing comprehensive and clearly articulated guidelines concerning the carriage and proper use of portable electronic devices (PEDs). These updated policies include stricter regulations on the handling and transport of power banks, applicable to all flights operated by the airline, to further enhance safety measures and prevent potential hazards.

Power Banks
To enhance safety measures, AirAsia specifies that power banks must be handled separately from spare batteries. Each passenger can carry up to two power banks, each with a maximum capacity of 100Wh.

AirAsia Philippines Power Bank Policy Updated
Power banks must be mandatorily stored properly either in the seat pocket or under the seat, and are strictly prohibited in overhead compartments or checked baggage. Any damaged or defective units may be confiscated by airport authorities for safety reasons.
Guidelines for Other Portable Electronic Devices
Electronic devices, including watches, calculators, cameras, mobile phones, laptops, and camcorders, are permitted onboard aircraft. Specifically, devices powered by lithium or lithium-ion batteries with a capacity exceeding 100Wh but not surpassing 160Wh can be carried for personal use. However, such items require prior approval from the airline to ensure safety and compliance with airline regulations.

Guidelines for Other Portable Electronic Devices
Meanwhile, spare or loose batteries must be carried exclusively in cabin baggage. They should be individually protected, such as by keeping them in their original packaging or insulating their contacts with foam or tape, to prevent any possibility of short circuits or accidental activation during the flight.
E-cigarettes and self-balancing battery-powered devices are explicitly prohibited from being placed in checked baggage, due to safety regulations and the potential risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, which could pose fire hazards if damaged or malfunctioning.
