Point.me’s rankings are informed by more than 22 million annual searches and over 500 million results generated on its platform. The evaluation examined both qualitative and quantitative aspects of loyalty programs, including ease of earning points, redemption rates, award availability, customer service, and policies on holds, changes, and cancellations.
According to point.me, the analysis reflects how loyalty programs perform in real-world practice, rather than just how they are marketed. This approach provides travelers with a practical framework for assessing the actual value of their loyalty participation.

Trends in loyalty program performance
The results show that airlines are actively refining their loyalty offerings in response to traveler demand. American Airlines’ sharp rise to second place, along with Alaska Airlines’ jump into the top three, suggests that program improvements around redemption flexibility and customer engagement are being recognized by passengers.
Tiffany Funk, Co-Founder and President at point.me, described the ranking as more than a leaderboard. “It’s a roadmap for loyalty programs to drive genuine value for current and prospective customers,” she explained. “When we see a program like American Airlines jump from sixth to second place, it shows that airlines are listening and evolving their approach in the market.”
Implications for the travel industry
For travel trade professionals, the report underscores the growing influence of loyalty programs as competitive differentiators. With customer expectations around ease of redemption and service transparency increasing, airlines are under pressure to adapt programs that go beyond earning points to delivering tangible value.
