A Hilltop Escape in Mansalay: Melzar’s Mountain Resort & Event Place

Melzar’s Mountain Resort & Event Place Review

There are places you visit for comfort, offering familiar warmth and relaxation, and then there are places you go to feel small in the most inspiring way possible, humbled by their grandeur. This realization struck me after visiting Mansalay in Oriental Mindoro, where I was accompanied by fellow content creators, travel agents, and a large group of youth leaders from Talon Uno in Las Pinas City.

Melzar's Mountain Resort & Event Place

Melzar’s Mountain Resort & Event Place

Perched in the quiet municipality of Mansalay, Melzar’s Mountain Resort belongs firmly to the latter. It’s not polished in the way big-name resorts are—but that’s precisely its charm. My stay here felt less like checking into a resort and more like discovering a viewpoint that just happens to have rooms, food, a fantastic infinity pool, and a zip-line strung across the hills.

Arrival Experience

The journey to Melzar’s is part of the experience. As the road climbs higher into the hills, the air cools, the scenery opens up, and the pace of life visibly slows. By the time I arrived at the resort’s entrance, I was already in a different mindset—one that matched the calm, rural character of southern Mindoro.

Check-in was straightforward and unpretentious, setting a relaxed tone from the start. There’s no grand lobby here—just a cozy space with warm, welcoming staff who greet you as if you’re an old friend returning home. One of the staff members kindly helped me with my luggage and personally guided me to my room. That genuine, heartfelt hospitality immediately stood out; it felt authentic and sincere, not scripted or rehearsed.

Rooms

I stayed for three nights in their moonstone room, one of the standard rooms, and it’s best to set expectations early: these are basic, no-frills accommodations.

The rooms are modest—think simple beds, essential furniture, a working air-conditioner, and functional bathrooms. Nothing luxurious, nothing fancy—but also nothing uncomfortable. It reminded me of a country bed-and-breakfast rather than a resort suite, but I like that it’s very close to the restaurant.

Interestingly, the variety of room types is quite wide, accommodating anywhere from couples to large groups, with rates ranging roughly from PHP2,500 to PHP7,000 depending on size and capacity.

While the rooms may not boast high-end sophistication, they compensate with their prime location—offering close proximity to breathtaking views, refreshing breezes, and serene silence. Picture yourself on a balcony, gazing out at an expansive, shimmering ocean horizon.

Honestly, we didn’t come here to spend all our time indoors; our purpose was to immerse ourselves in the local culture of Mansalay, exploring its rich traditions and vibrant community.

Infinity Pool & View Deck

The heart of the resort is its hilltop infinity pool, and this is where Melzar truly shines. Sitting at the edge of the slope, the pool opens up to a sweeping panorama of mountain ridges, the coastline, and the distant Tablas Strait.

I spent some time here just staring at the horizon, waiting for the sun to set rather than actually swimming. The breeze, the silence, and the scale of the view create a kind of stillness that’s hard to replicate elsewhere.

Restaurant & Dining

The open-air restaurant shares that same view, making even a simple meal feel elevated—literally and figuratively. The food itself is hearty Filipino fare: comforting, familiar, and filling. It’s also a popular venue for events like birthdays and weddings, largely because of its scenic backdrop.

Some of the youth leaders’ activities were held here, and there’s even a huge flat-screen TV for Karaoke sessions.

Event Spaces & Grounds

Melzar’s doubles as an event place, and you’ll notice it in the layout—wide open spaces, viewing decks, and quirky photo spots scattered around (including a giant wok and a bird’s nest structure for Instagram photos).

The resort features a range of spacious conference rooms, including options that can comfortably accommodate 80, 100, and up to 250 guests. Each room is equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity and advanced audiovisual equipment to support presentations, meetings, and events, ensuring a seamless experience for all attendees.

There’s also a souvenir area offering local products, reinforcing the resort’s connection to the surrounding community.

The Zip-Line Experience

At Melzar’s Mountain Resort & Event Place, the zip-line facility offers a thrilling way to experience the resort’s elevated landscape. Suspended high above the sloping terrain, the ride sends guests gliding across a stretch of greenery with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and distant coastline.

The descent is smooth yet exhilarating, combining a sense of speed with moments of quiet appreciation for the scenery below. Riders are securely harnessed and assisted by trained staff, ensuring both safety and confidence throughout the experience.

What makes the zip-line particularly memorable is its vantage point—rather than simply being a short recreational feature, it becomes a moving viewpoint that showcases the natural beauty of southern Oriental Mindoro.

For many visitors, it stands out as one of the resort’s highlights, offering a balance of adventure and scenic immersion that complements the otherwise tranquil atmosphere of the mountain setting.

One of the more unexpected aspects of Melzar’s is its connection to local heritage. Within the resort grounds, I encountered a small but meaningful space dedicated to the culture of Oriental Mindoro—particularly the traditions of the Mangyan people, who are indigenous to the entire province.

While not a large museum, the Oriental Mindoro Heritage and Cultural Center adds depth to the visit. It grounds the experience in something more than leisure, offering glimpses into local craftsmanship, traditions, and identity.

In a destination often defined by beaches and views, this cultural layer felt refreshing—and important.

Surroundings & Atmosphere

Melzar’s greatest strength is its location. The resort sits high enough to command views of both mountains and sea, creating a rare dual landscape that feels expansive and calming at once.

Mornings are quiet and misty. Afternoons are bright and breezy. And sunsets—those are the real highlight. The sky shifts into warm hues as the light dips behind the ridges, and everything slows down.

This is not a place for nightlife or packed itineraries. It’s a place for doing less—and enjoying it more.

Rates & Value for Money

Room rates vary by size and capacity, generally starting at around PHP2,500 for smaller rooms and increasing for larger group accommodations.

In terms of value, you’re not paying for luxury finishes—you’re paying for space, scenery, and experience. And in that sense, it delivers.

Overall Impression

Melzar’s Mountain Resort is not perfect—and it doesn’t claim to be.

Some areas still feel like they’re evolving, and the accommodations are undeniably simple. But what it lacks in refinement, it more than compensates for in atmosphere.

This is a place where:

  • The view does most of the talking
  • The breeze replaces air conditioning
  • and time feels pleasantly stretched

I left with fewer photos of the rooms and far more of the horizon—and that says everything.

If you’re the kind of traveler who values nature over luxury, perspective over polish, then Melzar’s isn’t just worth visiting—it’s worth lingering in.
