Virgin Australia Transforms Inflight Dining with New Economy Treats and Premium Business Class Meals

Virgin Australia inflight dining adds hot chips for Economy and fresh Business Class meals from 11 November.

Virgin Australia has refreshed its onboard food offering, bringing hot chips with aioli to Economy passengers and preparing a new Business Class menu for 11 November 2026. Announced on 27 October, the changes extend Virgin Australia inflight dining across eligible domestic and short-haul international services.

The Economy range includes returning favourites and drinks inspired by popular food trends, while premium travellers will receive revised breakfast, lunch and dinner options. The move matters for passengers because it expands food choices available during flights without changing complimentary water, tea and coffee in Economy or the inclusion of premium meals in Business Class.

Virgin Australia Economy Menu Introduces Hot Chips and Trending Food Choices

Hot chips served with aioli dipping sauce have been added to the Virgin Australia Economy menu, marking what the airline believes could be an Australian aviation first. They are sold on eligible flights over 90 minutes, subject to availability.

The TikTok-inspired Cheeseburger Toastie has returned after more than 50,000 were sold since May 2026. Passengers can now buy the toastie alongside the chips, creating an inflight version of a familiar burger-and-chips meal.

Other additions include a Chicken Caesar wrap inspired by a popular online food trend, matcha lattes, chai lattes, BOSS Iced Latte Coffee and a Jose Cuervo Sparkling Margarita. The updated Virgin Australia new menu was made available on 27 October. Complimentary tea, coffee and water continue to be provided to Economy passengers, while the food and drink choices are offered for purchase.

Months of Testing Bring Crispy Hot Chips to Australian Skies

Serving crispy chips onboard required months of testing. The cooking process and packaging were developed to allow air to circulate while the chips were heated in onboard ovens. The finished portion is served with aioli, salt and pepper.

Skin-on potatoes are used to reduce preparation waste. The process was designed to deliver hot, crispy chips despite inflight catering constraints.

Chief Customer Officer Andrew Cleary explained that the additions reflected the company’s effort to adapt popular everyday foods for flying. His comments also linked the strong toastie sales to the decision to introduce a complementary side dish, broadening Virgin Australia onboard food choices.

Virgin Australia Business Class Meals Receive a Premium November Refresh

New Virgin Australia Business Class meals are scheduled for 11 November 2026. The airline said passenger feedback and extensive taste testing had informed the selection, which spans breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert.

All premium food and beverages served in Business Class are included in the Business Class fare on eligible services. That distinction remains important: although the Virgin Australia Economy menu uses a buy-on-board model for these new items, Business Class passengers receive their premium dining selections within the ticket price.

The changes to Virgin Australia inflight dining therefore address both cabins, but through different service arrangements. The menus remain subject to flight eligibility.

Expanded Breakfast Options and Hearty Main Courses Enhance Premium Dining

Breakfast options include an egg and cheese quesadilla with sour cream and salsa, cheesy scrambled eggs with bacon and Boston beans, and a chorizo, pumpkin and fetta frittata with tomato relish. Lighter choices include Bircher muesli with strawberry and rhubarb compote, mango and coconut chia pudding, and yoghurt with lychee, finger lime and mint salsa. Banana bread with mascarpone and strawberry is also listed.

For lunch and dinner, Virgin Australia Business Class meals feature seared beef with roasted vegetables, potato and rosemary jus, crumbed chicken with broccoli, spiced potato and lemon, caper and dill sauce, and stir-fried beef in black bean sauce with rice and Asian greens. Asian beef noodle salad, pasta pesto salad and beef bolognese with parmesan cheese appear on the menu. Desserts include walnut brownie cake and berry chocolate cheesecake.

Velocity Frequent Flyer Benefits Support the Updated Onboard Experience

Velocity Frequent Flyer members can continue using Pay with Points for eligible Virgin Australia onboard food purchases. A linked Visa debit or credit card is required, and points may cover all or part of a qualifying transaction. The minimum transaction is AUD 1 and the maximum is AUD 200, with processing potentially taking five business days.

The benefit applies on Virgin Australia-operated domestic and short-haul international services, excluding Doha flights and services operated by other airlines on Virgin Australia’s behalf, including Link Airways. The carrier describes Velocity as Australia’s only airline loyalty programme permitting eligible inflight food and beverage redemptions.

The Virgin Australia new menu follows the airline’s fourth consecutive recognition as Australia’s Most Trusted Travel & Tourism Brand at the 2026 Roy Morgan Trusted Brand Awards.

The revised menus offer more choice while keeping the distinction between paid Economy refreshments and included Business Class dining clear. Hot chips with aioli, the returning Cheeseburger Toastie and trend-led drinks are now part of Virgin Australia inflight dining on eligible services, with the chips and toastie sold only on eligible flights exceeding 90 minutes.

Premium dishes are due from 11 November 2026, following passenger feedback and taste testing. Velocity members also retain qualifying points redemptions for onboard purchases. Together, these changes show how the airline is updating familiar food and cabin-specific service without altering the published service eligibility conditions.
